  • THE ECHD has released their recommendation for school re-openings. Please look at their statement here.

  • Gov. Holcomb announced that on Monday, July 27th, face coverings will be mandatory across Indiana. The Executive Order can be viewed by clicking here. Anyone age 8 or older will be required to wear a face mask in indoor public spaces, commercial entities, transportation services, or in outside public spaces where social distancing is not possible. There are penalties for not wearing a mask, but Gov. Holcomb said that he is counting on voluntary compliance. As Elkhart County's Dr. Mertz has repeatedly emphasized, the following precautions can also help reduce transmissions:
    • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. When soap is not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
    • Keep social distancing of 6 feet both indoors and outdoors.
    • Stay home if you are sick!
    • Clean frequently touched surfaces often.

  • 44 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Elkhart County on Thursday, but Health Department Spokesperson Melanie Sizemore reports, "Getting accurate data right now is nearly impossible." While there has been a decrease in new cases, that could be due to a delay in testing results.

  • Gov. Holcomb announced on Wednesday, July 15 that Elkhart County will remain at Stage 4 and the rest of the state will stay in Stage 4.5 for at least an additional two weeks.

  • On June 29th, the Elkhart County Health Department issued a Face Covering Mandate effective on June 30th, 2020 (y en español). There is an FAQ available to learn more (español) and a sign is available to be posted at places of business (español).  The directive outlines how face coverings can help prevent transmission and how to use them properly. Remember, preventing the spread is not just about being responsible so that businesses and events can stay open but also protecting our more vulnerable residents.
