  • The State of Indiana has announced the move to phase 4 of reopening for Friday, June 12. You can check out the details of what is reopening and at what capacity here. Elkhart County is in a particularly precarious position with rising case numbers, including over 100 new cases reported in a single day over the weekend. Please take precautions! The Elkhart County Health Department issued a directive for face coverings on Friday (y en español). While not mandatory, the directive outlines how face coverings can help prevent transmission and how to use them properly. Remember, preventing the spread is not just about protecting our more vulnerable neighbors but also about being responsible so that businesses and events can stay open. Dr. Lydia Mertz, Elkhart County Health Officer, recently released a statement emphasizing the following safety features:
    • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. When soap is not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
    • Wear cloth face coverings when in a public area. Even in outdoor spaces, if you are close to other people a face covering is still encouraged.
    • Keep social distancing of 6 feet both indoors and outdoors.
    • Stay home if you are sick!
    • Clean frequently touched surfaces often.
    • Hay información para la comunidad latina también. Y escucha a Gilberto Pérez Jr!

  • Take a moment to support Elkhart County Schools! This brief survey (only 2-3 minutes) about remote learning and home needs will help the county better prepare to educate students!

  • Support the Elkhart Civic Theatre and help restore the Bristol Opera House! The Take a Seat campaign allows donors to honor their families or others through a personally engraved dedication plaque on a seat in the Opera House. It's a great opportunity to make a lasting impact!

  • If you are an Elkhart County business or non-profit looking for a sign about COVID-19 prevention for your guests/staff, please call the Health Department at 574-523-2283. They are offering a poster which you can view here for FREE as long as supplies last. This is available in English and Spanish.
